Teaching

I teach a variety of different courses at what, under the Bologna agreement, are Bachelors and Masters levels in Zurich, as well as the Promotionsseminar for PhD students in the Department of Geography. If you are on one of my courses and need some help, then the easiest thing to do is come and find me in my office 25J82. Some information about these courses is below, but I am not responsible for all of it.

Bachelors Courses

I teach on two Bachelor's course, "Einführung in die Raumanalyse mit GIS (GIS I)" and "Vertiefung Geographische Informationswissenschaft (GIS II)". Together with Rob Weibel, I deliver the lecture content of these courses, and with a team of tutors we organise and run practical exercises for over a hundred students for both courses. You can find more information (in German) on the GIS I practicals here, and GIS II here.

Masters Courses

In the summer semester I teach a Master's course entitled "Object-Oriented Programming for Spatial Algorithms". This course introduces Java and a range of algorithms, and culminates in a project where students develop some simple functionality to explore a specific spatial problem. You can find the course web page here.

Promotionsseminar

PhD students undertaking doctoral studies at GIUZ participate in the so-called Promotionsseminar as part of their studies. I am responsible for the delivery of Promotionsseminar I, a traditionally-delivered course with a range of lectures, talks and discussions. Promotionsseminar II takes place over a weekend and is now organised by Sara Fabrikant. You can find more information about these courses here.
