WGMS & the workshop on mass balance measurements and modelling

WGMS officially supports this workshop convened by the Glacier, Snow and Ice section of the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE) as it is a great opportunity to bring together the producers and users of glacier mass balance data and to harmonise the national implementations of the international monitoring standards. The workshop covers the following topics:

- Regional and global assessments of glacier volume changes

- Expanding mass balance measurements to unmeasured glaciers

- new measurement techniques

- homogenization of long-term mass balance records

- uncertainty in glacier mass balance assessments

- use of weather station data on glaciers for observing and/or modelling mass balance

- mass balance modelling
